01 — A note from Ellis
In my own words
Most people apologise for not having a bigger reason.

Most of the people I see have been managing something competently for years, holding down the job, showing up for everyone, and quietly worn out by it. By the time someone calls me they usually apologise for not having a bigger reason. You do not need one.
I trained as a clinical psychologist because I was more interested in what was actually happening to someone than in what to call it. Fifteen years later that has not changed much. A diagnosis is sometimes useful and often beside the point, what matters more is what this is doing to your week, and what you have already tried on your own.
I work in plain language. If I use a term you have not met, ask and I will drop it. Nothing about therapy needs to be mysterious, and a good deal of what makes it work is unglamorous: being listened to carefully, at the same time every week, by someone who is not trying to fix you quickly.
If you are reading this and still not sure, that is the ordinary way to arrive. Fifteen minutes on the phone costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

04 — How I work
Four principles
The method matters less than the fit.
These are the four things I will not compromise on, whatever we end up working on together.
01
You are not a diagnosis
We might use a label where it helps get you the right support. We will not treat it as an explanation of you.
Plain language
02
The pace is yours
You decide what gets talked about and when. Nothing gets pushed because a model says week four is when we do it.
Always
03
We review it openly
Every few sessions we check whether this is working. If it is not, I would rather say so than let it quietly run on.
Every few weeks
04
Endings are planned
We finish deliberately, with something you can keep using. Therapy that fades out has usually stopped working already.
Planned, not drifted
